    Candler County is proud of its new Boys and Girls Club. And rightly so. The community came together to take an abandoned ramshackle school and restore it to a state-of-the-art facility where all of Candler’s young people can gather to nourish their minds and bodies.

    On Thursday, January 9, 2014, community support specialist Joey Mullins’ oncologist told him he had cancer. On Wednesday, June 25, his oncologist said, “You’re cured.” Joey learned some valuable lessons on that grueling journey through 23 rounds of radiation, 5 rounds of chemotherapy, and major surgery—many of which relate to the work of collaboration we do through Family Connection.

    We join Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) in welcoming Amy Jacobs as interim commissioner. Gov. Nathan Deal appointed Jacobs to replace Bobby Cagle, who now serves as interim director for the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS).
