Part of the Understanding Resilience Series: Overcoming the Hardships of Adverse Childhood Experiences

Resilient Augusta will host a virtual screening of “Resilience: the Biology of Stress & the Science of Hope,” followed by a Q&A with health care experts, Wednesday, July 29, at noon.

“Resilience: The Biology of Stress & the Science of Hope” chronicles the birth of a new movement among pediatricians, therapists, educators, and communities using cutting-edge brain science to disrupt cycles of violence, addiction, and disease.

Community leaders, decision makers, law enforcement, juvenile justice staff, business leaders, church leaders, school administrators, teachers, parents, and anyone who works with children should participate in this screening.

Why Should I Watch?
One in four children experience at least one potentially traumatic event before age 16. This single event can negatively alter a child’s life. The good news is that building resiliency in children can help them cope with their feelings and offset the impact of trauma. Learning about the impact of trauma will help you understand what a child may need to be successful.

I don’t deal with children—how does this impact me?
Untreated childhood trauma impacts people throughout their adult lives and manifests itself in hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and other increased health problems. Business owners and policymakers often encounter workplace behaviors such as substance misuse that stems from untreated trauma that impact the bottom line or community climate. Having this knowledge will help inform decision-making.
