Habersham County Family Connection recently hosted another successful Baby & Me event at the Cornelia Goodwill Career Center, bringing together local families, community partners, and valuable early childhood resources under one roof.

The event generated overwhelming community interest, with around 60 families attending throughout the evening. Event registrations represented 113 children, from unborn babies through teens, highlighting the wide reach and need for family centered support services in Habersham County.

A major focus of this year’s event was supporting early learning and parent engagement at home. The latest Georgia KIDS COUNT data shows that 52.5% of children ages 3 and 4 are not attending preschool, highlighting the need for targeted supports for families.

Families received educational activity kits designed to encourage hands-on learning and developmental growth. Altogether, approximately 80 educational kits were distributed for children from pregnancy through age 5, including:

  • 40 kits for expecting families and children ages 0–18 months,
  • 22 kits for children ages 19 months–3 years, and
  • 18 kits for children ages 4–5 years.

The event featured 18 community vendors and organizations offering resources, activities, and hands-on support for families. Several booths created especially memorable experiences for attendees. Habersham Elections & Voter Registration helped families learn more about local voter resources, while occupational therapist Dr. Maria Fisher provided on-site observations of children’s pencil and crayon grasp and shared tips with parents about proper hand positioning and early writing development.

Roots of Grace offered demonstrations on how to properly wear and position babies using baby carriers, giving parents practical guidance and support. The Family Resource Center was also a huge hit with families by giving away beautiful homemade quilts. In addition, Habersham Family Connection distributed 75 free medical safes to families to help encourage safe medication storage at home.

Families had the opportunity to connect directly with local agencies, learn about services available in the community, and enjoy an evening focused on supporting healthy families and child development.

Habersham County Family Connection would like to thank all participating vendors, volunteers, and families who helped make this event possible. The continued support from community partners plays an important role in strengthening connections and resources for children and families throughout Habersham County.
