Promoting Literacy and Early Education in Hall County

Hall County faces several challenges: chronic absenteeism, third-grade reading proficiency scores that are below the state average, and a lack of mental health clinicians for our youth. There’s also a shortage of early child care programs, leaving our 3- and 4-year-olds without access to quality early learning care—which, in turn, leads to our low third-grade reading scores, because children are not receiving that fundamental early education.

That’s why Hall County Family Connection Network is focused on promoting literacy. We go out into the community educating and bringing awareness to students, parents, business owners, and physicians about the importance of literacy, how it impacts the community, and the resources that are available. We have a Saturday program that works with children K – 5 on literacy skills, publish a monthly newsletter for families, and more.

Being a member of the Georgia Family Connection statewide network and receiving support from Georgia Family Connection Partnership enhances our efforts in Hall County by providing access to a wealth of resources, best practices, and opportunities to collaborate. Our network fosters relationships with local organizations and stakeholders, allowing for shared knowledge and innovative strategies to address community challenges.

Family Connection also helps align our local initiatives with statewide goals, ensuring that our efforts are part of a cohesive approach to improving the well-being of families and children in Hall County. By leveraging this support, we can drive more effective programs, attract funding, and ultimately create a greater impact in our communities.
