The Cobb Chamber’s East Cobb Area Council has named Irene Barton, executive director of Cobb Collaborative—a Georgia Family Connection Collaborative—as its 2023 East Cobb Citizen of the Year.
The Citizen of the Year Awards honor individuals whose impact through the years are regarded with pride throughout the area as a role model. These outstanding citizens, according to the Cobb Chamber, are chosen for their definable, exceptional deeds, with which they have made their community a better place to live.
Since 1990, the Citizen of the Year Awards have been presented to extraordinary community members for their work in Cobb County. The Cobb Chamber, in partnership with cities, business associations, and various civic partners throughout the community, come together each year to select and recognize these outstanding, service-minded individuals across Cobb County. Awards are given to deserving individuals based on local area nominations. Barton was nominated by members of the East Cobb Civitan Club, an international service club.
“I’m so honored to be recognized as a Cobb County Citizen of the Year, but our work in Cobb is truly a collaborative effort,” said Barton. “It’s critical that our Collaborative provide opportunities and resources to improve outcomes for all children and all families, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead those efforts.”
