ROBERTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Students of all ages showed up at the Roberta campus of Central Georgia Technical College Friday for a huge school supply giveaway.  When 41NBC got there, the line was all the way out the door!

The Crawford County Family Connection, made up of more than a dozen community businesses, organizations and religious groups, raised about $700 to host the event, according to coordinator Tawanna Harris.

All the supplies were first come, first serve.  They had everything from crayons, to notebook paper, to backpacks–everything a student needs to start the school year!

This giveaway was a little different than most others.  Adult students got to take part, too.

“We have our adult literacy department here,” says Harris.  “We also have post-secondary, which is here at Central Georgia Technical College.  We didn’t want to leave anyone out, so we decided our back to school bash would serve students of all ages.  That’s what makes it unique.”

Harris says 157 of Georgia’s 159 counties are a part of the Georgia Family Connection.  She says you hear about events like this all the time, but they’re usually put on by just one organization.

She also pointed out much more is possible when community organizations pool their resources together for a good cause.
