LEESBURG, GA (WALB)—Lee County students have less than a week before they head back to school. Saturday children and their parents learned more about what to expect, with a little fun.

Family Connection of Lee County is making sure everyone is ready.

“We care about each other and the vendors care, they come out and want to share information. I just think is a good opportunity for us to show that we care about the people in our own community,” said Patsy Shirley, Lee County Family Connection.

This is Family Connection 7th annual Back to School Bash. While children had fun with games and activities, parents attended some classes of their own. Social media, drugs and alcohol and school information were topics of discussion. One parent says she learned some valuable information.

“The information is important because I don’t use face book. I would not know the stuff they were saying if I didn’t listen. I did not realize how easy it was for kids to be doing the wrong thing online,” Dawn Exum, Parent.

This is the first year Mission Change has partnered with Family Connection for the event. They were there to make sure the kids had a good time. They say this was an enlightening experience for many reasons.

“To build relationships with kids in the neighborhood. There’s a lot of need in our area, kids that maybe don’t get a lot of attention for whatever reason. Patty Bruner, Mission Change.

Parents also believe events, like this back to school bash brings everyone together to make their community stronger.

“I just think it’s really good. I think that Lee County is really involved in the kids with their school and it’s really awesome,” Dawn Exum, Parent.

At the end of the bash, Mission Change gave out these 300 hundred back packs to the all the children who attended.

Family Connection is a statewide program. There’s a Family Connection for every county in Georgia.
