Request for Proposals for Emory’s School Based Health Center Planning Grants

Print This Post

There are 300,000 children in Georgia who are uninsured and, as a result, do not have a medical home and have very limited access to routine health care. Emory University’s Department of Pediatrics Urban Health Program will award up to eight planning grants of $10,000 each to organizations and communities interested in exploring the creation of a school-based health clinic in their area.

The Urban Health Program is requesting proposals to stimulate planning, and to facilitate collaboration and community discussion to expand the number of school-based health clinics throughout the state from two to 12 within five years.

The goals of the Comprehensive School-Based Health Center Program are to:

  • increase access to quality health care, improve the delivery of health services, and improve the health of Georgia’s children;
  • facilitate the expansion of school-based health clinics throughout the state over a five-year period; and
  • organize a state association for school-based health programs.

By expanding school-based clinic services, children in Georgia will benefit from improved access to primary health care, improved health outcomes, and improved school attendance. The state will benefit from reduced costs to the Medicaid system by reducing inappropriate emergency room visits, hospitalizations for chronic illnesses like asthma and diabetes, and transportation costs.
