On Friday, June 6, local “celebrities” from across the county tried their hand at serving breakfast to community members during Dawson County Family Connection’s “Celebrity Waiter” fundraiser.

“Celebrity Waiter” is an annual fundraiser that supports Dawson County Family Connection, a nonprofit dedicated to helping local families and children. According to Family Connection Coordinator Rebecca Bliss, this year’s event was extremely successful and, while they’re still finalizing numbers, it’s looking like it’s the biggest one in the 14 years they’ve been hosting it.

“Preliminary numbers indicate that after expenses, we made about $9,000.00, which will be used to better serve Dawson County’s family and children with services like TBRI training, group counseling (coming soon), caregiver support groups, etc.,” Bliss said.

Each year, local “celebrities”, or people in Dawson County who are known for the positive impact they make on the community, try their hand at being a waiter or waitress for a morning, all in the name of raising money to support Family Connection.

This year’s list of celebrity waiters included Alison Ward, Amy Palmer, Angela Harben, Carol Tyger, Chad Turkett, Deborah Ross, Dustin Heard, Georgann Schmalz, Jeremy Merritt, Jessica Rowan, Jill Alexander, Jim Buckley, Pepper Pettit, Randy Harkness, Rebecca Thurman, Scott Yochum, Sher Whitmore, Vikki Brannon and Will and Carly Anglin.

At the end of the event, the “Celebrity Waiters of the Year” were named to be Will and Carly Anglin. “A remarkable husband and wife duo, nominated for the inspiring ways they selflessly give back to their community,” Bliss said. “As dedicated school teachers, compassionate coaches, and faith-driven pastors, they wear many hats—each one marked by their passion for serving others.”

She added her thanks on behalf of Family Connection to all of the sponsors who helped make the fundraiser possible, with a special thanks to Longhorn Steakhouse and Chick-fil-A for their support of the event every year.
