A very creative and competitive week concluded with some of the most challenging culinary dishes and fruit masterpieces presented by the students who attend the five-day Emanuel Chopped Jr. Advanced cooking class.
Volunteers from Emanuel County Family Connection and Georgia Family Connection staff assisted the students in this fun nutrition program that taught food preparation, safety, and healthy eating. This is one of the main strategies of Emanuel County Family Connection along with literacy according to coordinator Tammy Allen.
Some of the foods prepared by the young chefs were roasted brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and asparagus. The latter won the vegetable competition. The biggest project was making gourmet cheesecakes, which were judged by Kate Stoltzfus, the expert from Leanna’s. The White Chocolate Blueberry Cheesecake took the win. Fruit sculpting is always part of the class. This year the task was even more challenging. Watermelon cakes! See the photo of the winning creation.
Many thanks to our volunteers, Candy Powers, Petite Garrett, Devion Davis, Sunny Rogers, Kerri Henderson. Also thank you to judges, Matt Jarrell, Kate Stoltzfus, Kayla Scarboro, and mystery judge Devion Davis.
