Be Healthy Georgia Day and Kids Fun Run March 10

Georgia Family Connection Partnership is teaming up with Lt. Governor Casey Cagle for the second annual Be Healthy Georgia Day at the Capitol on Saturday, March 10.

The day will kick off in a fun and healthy way with the Atlanta Track Club (ATC) Kilometer Kids One-Mile Fun Run at 9 a.m. The police-escorted kids run for ages 7-12 features a fun course around the State Capitol Building and Atlanta City Hall. This free family event will be full of music, give-a-ways and fun. Not to mention the 20 mascots from across Georgia who will compete in the Nike+ Mascot Trot for top bragging rights in the Dole Fit City. Special guests who also are going to participate the day’s festivities include:

  • Sesame Street’s Elmo,
  • Atlanta Falcon Ovie Mughelli,
  • Atlanta Dream’s Lindsey Harding,
  • Olympic Silver Medalist and Track & Field World Champion Kim Batten,
  • Radio Disney,
  • Falcons Cheerleaders, and members from various college sports teams from Georgia State, Kennesaw State.

Be Healthy Georgia Day Schedule

In addition to the Kilometer Kids One-Mile Fun Run, the Be Healthy Georgia Day will feature all sorts of fun and healthy activities for the whole family:

8 a.m.—Registration and number pick-up for the One-Mile Fun Run opens while 1996 Olympic Silver Medalist Kim Batten, YMCA, Marcelo Vazquez (Specialized Kids Trainer) and Radio Disney’s DJ Coco get the crowd going for pre-run/walk warm-ups.

9 a.m.—The Kilometer Kids One-Mile Fun Run begins promptly with a police-escorted route around the State Capitol and the Atlanta City Hall grid.

9:15 a.m.—Following the run, everyone enters the Dole Family Fit City, where a DJ will keep the beat alive and families can interact with all types of sport activities with give-a-ways, as well as chances to win tons of other prizes donated by the event’s partners.

9:15 – 9:45 a.m.
—Post Run/Walk cool-down stretches by the Big Peach Running Co. and other special guests.

10 a.m.—Mascots line up for the big NIKE+ Mascot Trot showdown at for top bragging rights. Will it be Hairy Dog? Freddie Falcon? Buzz?  You’ll have to wait and see.

Other programs and group activities will also occur throughout the day.

1 p.m.—Event closes.
