GaFCP Testifies on FY12 Budget

Georgia Family Connection Partnership (GaFCP) Executive Director Gaye Smith provided testimony on the FY12 budget to the House Appropriations sub-committee on Human Resources early this week. The subcommittee heard testimony from a host of agencies, including GaFCP, about the impacts of the budget cuts for the upcoming fiscal year.

A key component of Smith’s testimony was GaFCP’s response to the FY12 budget recommendation to transfer Family Connection funds to the Governor’s Office of Children and Families. GaFCP requests that the House Appropriations sub-committee eliminate the transfer and keep GaFCP administratively attached to DHS.

“We have been resolute in our mission to improve conditions for Georgia’s children and families,” said Smith. “Our commitment is to continue supporting the Georgia Family Connection network of 159 counties across the state, and we’re obligated to maintain and enhance the private investments in this work. We must not rely solely on taxpayer dollars. These are—and always have been—our priorities.”
