Georgia Council for the Arts Appoints GaFCP Regional Partner to Administer Grassroots Arts Program

Aug. 18 , 2009
The Georgia Council for the Arts recently appointed Georgia Family Connection Partnership as the new Regional Partner to administer the Grassroots Arts Program (GAP) for fiscal year 2010 in the 11-county area serving Carroll, Cobb, Dekalb, Douglas, Haralson, Heard, Meriwether, Paulding, Pike, Troup, and Upson counties.

GAP is a decentralized funding mechanism created by the Georgia General Assembly to ensure that every county has access to state-supported arts programs and funding—especially small, traditionally underserved communities. Funding is administered by a statewide network of GCA-appointed GAP regional partners and single-county agencies.

The intent of the Grassroots Arts Program is to support arts programs and services as broadly as possible.  Projects should create opportunities for community-wide access to the arts, target underserved populations, and contribute to activities that have a positive impact on community development.  Funded activities must be accessible and available to the general public or designed as outreach to specific

underserved populations.

Eligible grantees include arts organizations, institutions of higher learning, senior citizen centers, chapters of the Red Cross or Salvation Army, Family Connection, Boys and Girls Clubs, graduate chapters of sororities and fraternities, civic and social welfare organizations, social and recreational clubs, fraternal societies, churches, and veterans organizations.

An art grant is available for Carroll, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Haralson, Heard, Meriwether, Paulding, Pike, Troup, and Upson counties.

Application deadline: Extended to Nov. 1, 2009
