A recent three-segment show of "KIDS UNDER CONSTRUCTION," was filled with guests bearing information that every parent and Sumter County resident should know concerning the united effort of all agencies to improve school attendance and reduce the drop-out rate in Sumter County.

Host Connie Wise, principal of Early College, greeted guests in the Georgia Southwestern State University studio, who were eager to share information concerning attendance issues and the law in Sumter County and Georgia. Attendance officer for Sumter County Schools, Coach Jimmy Green, led the guest list. Colonel Eric Bryant and Major Joe Monts of the Sumter County Sheriff' s Department, Stephen Woodson and Renae Youngsdale, truancy officers with Visions for Sumter and the Juvenile Court of the Southwestern Judicial Circuit, and Nekethia West and Adrienne Davis, social workers with Sumter County Schools, all shared current information about all issues concerning attendance in Sumter County Schools.

"For the month of August we had an average of 97-percent attendance in the school district, said Green. "This is a record. Our guests on the show shared numbers, issues, and law involvement as we work together to improve attendance and reduce school drop-outs in Sumter County."

Guests discussed parental responsibility and legal consequences for not attending school, including possible incarceration, loss of driver's license privileges in Georgia.

"Some move to avoid these attendance rules, but in Georgia the same rules apply for school attendance throughout the state," said Green.

"KIDS UNDER CONSTRUCTION" is offered on the GSW Web site with navigation to the "on demand" drop-down of TV station. Watch the show online Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12, , and 8 p.m., and on local cable at announced days and hours.
